Google Chrome not rendering the checkboxes properly

Posted on: 05 Oct 2008 | Filed under: General | 13 comments

[ad#ad-3] Google chrome(0.2.149.30) has got some problem in rendering the checkboxes. Today I thought about buying a new laptop, so I was searching for a laptop that will fit into my budget and requirements. And I came across a website called http://www.compareindia.com/products/laptops/ , I was using Google chrome for browsing, but when viewed that page it was like this

Chrome

There was no way for me  to narrow my search because I couldn't select any of options listed under "Narrow your  Search" section, but after sometime i.e after doing some scrolling and switching tabs checkboxes appeared on the left side of this list

[ad#ad-2]

Initially I thought that, it will a problem with the way that page was developed(may be some JavaScript issues), but when I opened the same page in Firefox(3.0.1) it was rendering properly, even in IE 6 is rendered that page correctly.

FF  I think this is a Chrome bug; I have reported this , follow this URL http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=3151 if you have experienced same problem.

I'm now on version 12.0.742.112 and the problem still lives... It's about time, don't you think?

Hi Chris, if that is the case, it is regression issue. Ta, Rajeesh

Hi All, Please update your Google Chrome to and give try :) Because I am not able to reproduce now with version 1.0.154.59, GMail, Wordpress 2.7.1 admin and http://compareindia.in.com/products/laptops/ are showing the check boxes properly.

It's exactly this sort of thing that makes people revert back to Firefox, IE or whatever they were using before. This is my second attempt to switch to Chrome...and it won't be a third! But as a software developer I recognize that some problems are not fixed overnight, so I will give it a few more weeks.

There must have been a regression, because the problem seems to be back in Chrome 1.0.154.53.

Hi Suresh, You are correct, I switched to "Dev" channel and updated my chrome; now checkboxes are rendered correctly. Thanks a lot for the information. Ta, Rajeesh

Try the latest development version of chrome (0.2.153.1). This is fixed there.. You can now download the Chrome Channel Switcher, which allows you to switch between the “beta” Chrome and “Dev” Chrome. The Beta Chrome are the stable releases whereas the Dev Chrome is updated as soon as a bug or security flaw is fixed. http://chromium.googlecode.com/files/chromechannel-1.0.exe

If this happens again open a new tab and go to the chrome control panel (click on the wrench at the top right of the page) click on under the hood then check your priginal page and see if the boxes appear, I knwo this is a pain but supposedly the Chrome developers know about this situaiton and are trying to get it fixed permenently this is just a temporary fix I have found.
